In recent times, many schools have started providing higher secondary education in the mid hills of the district, making it possible for married school girls to continue their education. Significantly, the higher secondary programs in these schools have seen a drastic rise in enrollment by female students.
Locals say the addition of higher secondary program by schools here since the last academic session has had a positive impact on women´s education.
Like Bhattarai, Radha Bhatta of the same village is also pursuing higher secondary education.
Another local girl, Hira, who completed SLC five years ago, is now enrolled in the eleventh grade.
“My dream for higher education finally came true after schools in the village started the program,” she said. “I had to discontinue education after marriage as I couldn´t go to colleges located far from the village. But now, it looks like my ten years of schooling will not go in vain,” she added.
Of 70 students enrolled at the Siddhanath Higher Secondary School, a majority are married women.
Half-a-dozen schools have started providing higher secondary education in the mid hills alone. Given the number of applicants, four more schools in the district are in the process of starting the program.
