Govt putting every effort for consensus on peace, constitution

KATHMANDU, May 9: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has said that the government is putting every effort to build national consensus on the issues of peace process and constitution drafting process.



Addressing the inaugural session of the fourth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Istanbul, Turkey, on Monday, Prime Minister Khanal said the efforts for consensus are being made in fully democratic spirit of inclusiveness and participation.[break]



The prime minister said political parties are currently engaging in the task of concluding the peace process and constitution drafting process through political dialog, consensus and accommodation. “In view of the very comprehensive nature of the task at hand, including the need for restructuring the state along federal lines, while adequately accommodating the wishes and expectations of our people, the government has been making every effort to build national consensus on the issues of peace and constitution,” he said.



Khanal said the government would focus its attention on economic development and growth with human face through public-private partnership with a strong cooperative sector as the third pillar of development.



Prime Minister Khanal also thanked development partners for their understanding and consistent support to Nepal´s national endeavor for consolidating peace, democracy and development.



On the occasion, he expressed confidence that the strong political will and renewed commitment from both the LDCs and development partners would help bring about substantial positive change in the conditions of the more than 800 million people living in the LDCs in the coming decade.
