KATHMANDU, Nov 29: The government has promoted five Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Nepal Police to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG) on the basis of seniority on Thursday.

A cabinet meeting held at Singh Durbar on Thursday afternoon promoted DIGs Dinakar Shumsher JB Rana, Ramesh Bikram Shah, Ganga Pandey, Binod Singh and Pushkar Regmi to the post of AIG. [break]

Promotion of DIGs was in limbo due to a rift between IG Rana and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar.

Four posts of AIG were vacant for the last two months as the then Inspector General (IG) Rabindra Pratap Shah along with four other AIGs retired on the same day. Promoted police officers along with IG Kuber Singh Rana had entered the service on the same day and will retire together.

According to Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, the cabinet meeting also appointed Madan Kharel as the General Manager of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) and Anil Kumar Jha as the Director of Janak Education Materials Centre Ltd.

Likewise, the government has promoted Deputy Investigation Directors of National Investigation Department Rajendra Kumar Khatri and Pushkar Prasad Chaulagain to the post of Investigation Director.
