The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers issued the directive to this effect to make the units more effective following complaints of weak implementation of verdicts issued by the apex court or of the verdicts not implemented at all.[break]
Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Rajuman Singh Malla, gave out this information at a discussion programme on implementation of the verdicts related to citizenship issued by the Supreme Court here today.
The discussion programme is organized by the Sancharika Samuha (Women Communicators´ Group) and the Forum for Women, Law and Development.
On the occasion, Secretary Malla said that 12 directive orders concerning citizenship and issued by the Supreme Court have been implemented.
He said a sensitive issue like citizenship should not be taken lightly and also claimed that there have not been any delay in issuing citizenship certificates.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bhola Prasad Shivakoti said that besides the District Administration Offices, citizenship certificates would be issued by setting up integrated service centres in 31 places of the country.
Stating that citizenship certificates are being issued to the people of the marginalized communities at their very door steps, he cautioned against making unnecessary comments on the citizenship issue.
As per the information shared on the occasion, the government has issued citizenship certificates to 14.6 million people from 2009 BS to 2068 BS.
Member of the National Women´s Commission (NWC), Mohna Ansari complained that women were facing difficulties getting their citizenship certificates.
Chairperson of Sancharika Samuha, Nirmala Sharma and advocate Sabin Shrestha presented working papers discussing various issues related with the distribution of citizenship certificates.
