Giving details of Sunday´s cabinet decision, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, who is also a Special Committee member, said a final decision on the rank of the army officers leading the directorate would be taken at a later time after the number of Maoist combatants joining the army becomes clear. Such a directorate will have four departments -- national development, industrial security, forest and ecology protection and calamities management. Pun also said the integration process will begin very soon.
“It will not be wrong to say from the government side that everything has been done for integration of the ex-combatants,” he said.
Govt appeals parties, civil society to support for statute
Meanwhile, the government has called on all political parties, civil society and other quarters of society to support the process to draft a new constitution.
“Now constitution writing is the priority of the government and discussions among political parties will focus on the same issue,” said Pun. "So the government appeals all political parties, civil societies and various organizations to support the constitution writing process by creating conducive environment and not call strikes or closures.”
According to him, the cabinet meeting stressed on the need to focus on constitution writing as the peace process nears conclusion.
