Govt, armed outfit ink six-point agreement

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The government and Samyukta Janatantarik Tarai Mukti Morcha (SJTMM-Azad group), an armed outfit operating in Tarai region, have inked a six-point agreement in Lumbini on Friday.



SJTMM has agreed to stop armed struggle and militant activities whereas the government will treat the Morcha as a political party and provide security to its leaders and cadres during the talk period.[break]



As per the understanding, the government would also initiate process to withdraw cases filed against SJTMM´s leaders.



It has been agreed that SJTMM will hand over its weapons to the government in the next round of talks, after which the government would be free to take actions against any illegal activities carried out in the name of SJTMM.



Minister for Peace and Reconstruction, Pampha Bhusal represented the government in the talks while the Morcha was represented by its coordinator Udaya Kanta Mishra ´Azad´.
