Govt appoints Ghale special envoy for reconstruction efforts

KATHMANDU, June 15: The government has appointed Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Shesh Ghale as Nepal's special envoy to help in the country's efforts to rebuild in the aftermath of the massive earthquakes that destroyed infrastructures and affected thousands of Nepalese people.

A cabinet meeting held on Sunday decided to appoint NRNA President Ghale as Nepal's special envoy for the reconstruction efforts, according to Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal. The appointment comes as Nepal prepares to host a donors' conference on June 25 in Kathmandu to raise necessary funds for the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.A Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) carried out the by government has estimated that over $6.6 billion would be needed for the post-quake rebuilding.

Ghale, who is the head of the Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia, has set up a fund of Rs 1 billion in Nepal and is involved in various charity works in the country.
