KATHMANDU, June 22: The government has announced a public holiday on Wednesday, to commemorate National Census Day 2011, which also marks 100 years of the beginning of national census in the country.

The 11th national census is being conducted with the slogan ‘Include All, No Double’.[break]

The information obtained during the census is widely expected to be an instrumental tool in the state restructuring process, one of the major tasks the Constituent Assembly is faced with.

Around 34,000 enumerators have been mobilized to collect data from 5.8 million households from across the country between June 17 and 27 before sending the data for processing.

The Central Bureau of Statistics has projected the country’s population at 28.6 million by 2011, up from 23.1 in 2001.
