KATHMANDU, Jan 18: The chill this season is getting severe and, let´s face it, Kathmandu is quite short of places you can actually go out and enjoy during such weather. This, however, should not force you to stay bored for you can have all the fun even inside your room without having to step out into the cold streets. Gennext tells you how, read on![break]

Improve your dancing skills

Dancing to pass time can never go wrong. You can sway the day away with your friends or even alone. If you decide to call your friends, list down favorite tracks of each one of you.

This way all the members of your group get a chance to take the center stage, making the session all the more fun. And even if you decide you want an alone time there is nothing wrong! Having no audiences can actually be fun for there´ll be nobody to tease you for singing out of tune or making wrong moves.

Alone or with friends this chilly season learn all the new fabulous moves so that when you hit club next time people around can only stare. You can even put on some hot and shiny outfit, just to create the night club mood!

Go on, get your groove strong.

Try out some card making

You can do this alone or with friends. In fact, you can even ask your siblings to join in. Try making some greeting cards. Handicraft is a novelty these days and the procedure, too, is quite easy. Chart paper, scale, pencil, scissors, colors, etc, are what you require, and mostly they are readily available at home.

If you think you aren´t very good at sketching, you can use graphic software to design your own greeting cards. You can also cut out small parts from old cards and create a collage.

Another way to do it is take a photo with your digital camera and upload it to your computer. Add an appropriate poem or quote and print it. Voila! Here is your personalized one-of-a-kind greeting card.

Go ahead, make a card for your parents or grandparents; now you don´t have to wait for an occasion to show how much you love them.

Read a book

If you are reading, you can never go wrong. It probably is the best option to keep you engaged and entertained when you are confined indoor. Think about it, how many hours do we have electricity to watch TV or even surf the internet?

Even if you have never been a reader, look around the house, dig into that book shelf just meters away and choose a book. For a beginner it is always best to pick up a fiction.

Choose books that have a collection of stories rather than trying out a whole novel. This way, as the stories end and you move on to the next you´ll feel refreshed.

Why not try Nepali literature? There are great many stories by Parijat, Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Gopal Prasad Rimal and many more.

Once you begin reading you will realize that reading can be quite fascinating and an adventure. What more, you accumulate better vocabulary and become a writer yourself.

Sleep

Here is something we all love to do and why not? It´s cold and there is nothing compared to the feeling of a warm bed with a heavy blanket upon you. While you doze off you may lose yourself to the sweet dreams while the sleep improves your memory and repairs your skin. In fact, according to a BBC report, sleeping under seven hours greatly raises the risk of catching a cold.

Apart from health benefits, sleeping comes with many advantages. Although it might sound like the lamest option among all, it´s actually the cleverest one. You neither need a company nor wait for electricity, and there´s no cost attached.

Get under the blanket, forget everything and just slumber away.

Have a movie marathon

What can be a better way to beat the winter cold, than staying warm inside your blanket with a stack of popcorn and a hot cup of coffee?

To make it even better, why not make it a movie day? Watching movies always tops the list when it comes to killing boredom, especially in winter. All you need to do is look out for the movies you haven´t been able to see in a while. You can even ask your friends to come over and suggest or bring in some movies of their choice.

Just sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Look through Your Old Pictures

With our hectic schedules, we all forget to relish the memories of the yester years. To cherish those good days and to relive those moments once again, why not flip through your photo albums once again?

Starting with your baby pictures, the ones from school days, and of the time you spent with your friends and of get togethers with your family and friends. Who knows, you might just come across your photos with the embarrassing hairstyles and clothes that you once sported.

You will be surprised to know how much fun this whole experience can be. Make sure that you have your parents, siblings or friends around while you are at it.

Host a party

Throwing a bash and inviting your friends for a house party can be one of the best ways to beat the winter blues. Think of a theme party like a barbeque party or a momo party at your place.

If you doubt your cooking skills then you can actually look out for different recipes that you can quickly learn and prepare with little help from your friends who know how to cook. You can even have a baking session where you can try making different baked delicacies which will also add to the fun of trying out your culinary skills.

You can arrange for a bonfire and even have a jam up by asking your friends to flaunt their guitar skills. So, with the soothing music on the background and good food on the table, can anything get better than this?

Help around and have some fun

Tidying the house, washing up and arranging the stuffs of your room are a few in the very long list of chores that usually gets done on daily basis. Parents are usually seen doing this but as a member of the house you too can chip in once in a while to help around the house.

There must be that pile of clothes, stack of books and other things that needs to be arranged in your room. You will be surprised at how easily time passes when you get into the act of cleaning. Make sure you have the right music going while you are doing it.

Moreover, the activity will keep you warm and, at the end of the day, you can pat yourself on the back for the effort you put in to clean the house.
