Four more die of cold

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Four more persons died of the cold wave in the Tarai districts on Tuesday.



Mahabir Sharan, 70, of Ramananda Chowk, Janakpur died of cold at the Janakpur Zonal Hospital Tuesday morning while Anarogya Dhankar, 50, of Belgacchi-5, Mahottari died due to lack of warm clothes, reports our correspondent Suresh Yadav.[break]



Similarly, Indra Maya Lungeli, 65, of Shankarpur-9 and Anar Devi Pathak, 60, of Gaurishankar-9 died in Sarlahi district, according to the District Police Office. Tuesday´s deaths have taken the death toll due to cold in Dhanusha district to five, Mahottari to seven and Sarlahi to 10 in the past week.



The Janakpur Airport couldn´t function for the eighth consecutive day owing to poor visibility.



Meanwhile, all the educational institutions in Kanchanpur district have been shut down for a week due to extreme cold, according to our correspondent Bikram Giri.



The Private and Boarding School Association of Nepal (PABSON) and National Private and Boarding School Association of Nepal (N-PABSON) had taken the decision three days ago following poor attendance at schools while the community schools and colleges also followed suit from Tuesday.



Normal life in the hilly districts and the plains of Far West have been affected for the past several days due to the cold weather while the number of patients rushing to hospitals with pneumonia and common cold has also increased.



Similarly, Sher Bahadur KC reports from Butwal that all educational institutions in Rupandehi district have announced closure for a week starting Monday.



Schools in neighboring Kapilbastu and Nawalparasi districts have also been shut down for a week due to extreme cold weather.
