In the economic and social survey of the region for the year 2013 made public here today, by ESCAP, emphasis has been given for special efforts by political leadership of the region for economic growth. [break]
Making public the report, National Planning Commission (NPC) Vice Chairman Deependra Bahadur Kshetry said some mandatory arrangements have been made to invest some percent compulsorily in productive areas by the financial institutions.
He also said the commission has given high priority to agro sector development along with income generation programmes to raise the livelihood of Nepali people under poverty line.
He said government has made arrangements for crop and livestock insurance and is planning to bring social security programmes.
ESCAP Bangkok Head Office Trade Policies and Analysis Section Chief Mia Mikic said expected progress could not be made even if it was better than other areas of the world.
UNRC Resident Convener Terence D. Jones said economy of the region could not take pace for due to economic depression, political instability and lack of infrastructure including power.
The report was made public today in 37 countries of the region simultaneously.
The report has pointed out political instability, strikes, labor problems and lack of power and weak food grains supply for negative impact.
