Forest secy vows to take Dhrube under control

RATNANAGAR, Dec 30: Secretary at the Ministry of Forests, Krishna Chandra Poudel, has said that the rowdy elephant Dhrube would be taken under control by any means.



The notorious elephant Dhrube has been spreading terror in Madi, Chitwan and has also killed people.[break]



The Forest Ministry secretary made this commitment in an all-sides discussion held at the office of the Chitwan National Park after carrying out on-site inspection of activities undertaken by the park in the drive to take the elephant under control.



The district presidents of different political parties and conservationists participated in the discussion and the inspection.



Secretary Poudel said that new technology would be used if the elephant could not be brought under control with the current technology.



Although the park´s officials and game scouts have been mobilized to track Dhrube since the last 15 days, they have not been able to track it down. The team under the leadership of secretary Poudel arrived here to take on-site information to that connection.



The inspection team comprises secretary Poudel, Director General at the Department of National Parks Megh Bahadur Pandey, Shivaraj Bhatta of the World Wildlife Fund, member-secretary of the National Trust for Nature Conservation, Juddha Bahadur Gurung, Chief District Officer of Chitwan district, Himnath Dawadi, UCPN (Maoist) district in-charge Ghanshyam Dahal, RPP-Nepal district president Badri Timilsina, Nepali Congress secretary Jeet Narayan Shrestha, UML representative Krishna Bhurtel and the officials of the Madi Struggle Committee.



The locals in Madi area have intensified their protests saying that the park officials have not been able to trace the notorious elephant despite receiving orders to kill it.



Dhrube had killed a Bote couple in Madi on December 15, 2012. The locals have been calling for hunting the elephant down after this incident.
