Folk singer arrested over fraud

KATHMANDU, April 18: Folk singer Srijana Birahi Thapa has been arrested on the charge of fraud, SSP Rana Bahadur Chand, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office (MPRO), Hanumandhoka said.



She was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Sector Sorkhakhutte and handed over to MPRO today. [break]



Sources said that the singer was involved in dhukuti business, a mutual financial transaction, and was arrested after people complained of being duped. However, it has not been verified by the police.



The investigation into the matter is underway, the police said.



Birahi is the singer of hit folk number ´Banko Kafal Bankai Chari´.
