Organising a press conference here today, FNCCI stated that its serious attention was drawn by the incidents of attacks taking place against business entrepreneurs for refusing to provide donation as demanded by various political parties and groups.[break]
The FNCCI said, "The incidents of demands for donation and attack against the business entrepreneurs have given the impression that such condemnable incidents were flourishing of late. The private sector has felt that the security condition in the country has further weakened."
Speaking at the press conference, FNCCI president Suraj Baiddya condemned the life threatening attack against Chairman of Nepal Bankers´ Association, Rajan Singh Bhandari. He also added that FNCCI has received complaints of many industrialists and businessmen being asked to provide a certain amount of money in donation.
Similarly, he mentioned that the incidents of attack on the office of Nepal Derivative Exchange (NDEX) on January 4 resulted in damages of tens of thousands of rupees.
FNCCI Chairman Baiddya mentioned that the FNCCI has serious objection over such incidents, saying, "The industrial and business sector could no longer take the blow from the donation terror."
"We prefer the right of an individual to carry out their business without any hindrance as per the law of the land and are against impunity," said Biaddya. He stressed the need of bringing clear laws to check the coercive donations and said, "Donation is voluntary, it should not be coercive."
The FNCCI president said all political parties have intensified the donation collection drive of late.
FNCCI vice-president Pradipjung Pandey urged the state to stop abuses against the industrialists and businessmen, saying that the car in which Chairman of the Bankers´ Association, Bhandari, was traveling was nearly set alight by some hooligans.
Another Vice-president Pashupati Murarka, stressed that the administration should work actively for promoting the national economy which has been hit hard from different hostile sectors, though some improvement were seen on labour relation of late.
The FNCCI has also called for ending the existing political instability and moving ahead forging political consensus on economic agendas. It stated that it was bringing various programmes keeping in view the investment year.
