Four reports on missing girls were filed at the District Police Office in Ghorahi Monday evening alone while another was filed at the Satbariya Police Post. [break]

Four girls have been missing from Hansipur VDC since Saturday. Yukala Khatri, 10, Hira Gharti, 10, Manisha Khatri, 8, and Manju Buda, 9, have not even gone to any of their relatives, according to Lum Bahadur Karki, a local.

Karki said the four were seen together on the way to district headquarters on Saturday afternoon. “They had told the villagers they met that they were going to Ghorahi,” Karki, who came to Ghorahi to inform the media, said.

Similarly, Pushpa Kunwar, 3, of Satbariya-9 has gone missing while playing with her friends on April 21. “Our home is at the roadside and someone may have picked her from the highway,” Pushpa´s father Tirtha Raj Kunwar said.

He said the locals have searched her in the forest, streams and rivers but to no avail. He also ruled out abduction for ransom saying he is an average farmer.

Police said search for the girls has been hampered as the guardians did not complain immediately after the girls went missing. “It would have been easy for us to search for them had the parents reported the missing immediately,” Chief of Dang police Thakur Prasad Gyawali rued.
