Fair for a complete Dashain shopping

KATHMANDU, Sept 17: If you are planning for a complete shopping for Dashain, ongoing 6th South Asia China Trade Fair 2011 at Bhrikuti Mandap can be the perfect destination.



Some 180 stalls of different products including garments and textiles, commodities, handicrafts, herbal products, medicine and health products, industrial raw materials, construction and agriculture machinery and tools, automobiles, electronics and kitchen wares, mobiles, safety equipments among others have been showcased.[break]



The five-day long fair which concludes on September 19 has provided visitors an opportunity to buy electronic items, kitchenware, mobile phones and tea from India, Rajshahi and Jamdani saris, garments and kurtha-salwars from Bangladesh, leather goods, jewelries, accessories, saris and kurthis from Pakistan, play items, study and picnic tables, decorative materials and Feng Shui products from China, and handicrafts, metal crafts, carpets, agro products and commodities among others from Nepal.



Amit Agrawal director of Electron International said that as household utensils are a must they have been receiving a good number of crowd at the store. The new product at the store Electron Rice Cooker ranging from Rs 1,170 for a liter to Rs 1,725 for 2.8 liters has attracted the crowd most. Similarly, Bangladeshi T-shirts and garments are available in the range of Rs 300 to Rs 900 and Rajshahi saris are available in the range of Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,500.



Pakistani leather purse for ladies are available at Rs 800 while wallets for men are available from Rs 500 to Rs 600. Similarly, jewelries are available from Rs 200 to Rs 500, kurthis and saris range from Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,500 while leather jackets and overcoats are in the range of Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000.



Rafiq Lakhani, proprietor of Lakhani Textiles, said that though this is the first time ever he has participated in the trade fair in Nepal, a good response from visitors and high sales volume have motivated him to participate in Nepali trade fairs in the future as well.



“As market inspection has found impurities even in mineral waters we drink, we have tried to educate the people about the importance of installing Euroguard at their homes and offices,” said Hari Pandey manager of Aayusha Trading Concern --authorized distributor for Eureka Forbes Euroguard in Nepal.



The fair has also become an appropriate platform for South Asian and Chinese companies to showcase their products to Nepalis, to discuss with entrepreneurs for the possibilities of joining hands and investing in Nepal.



“The fair organized mainly to facilitate Dashain shopping for the customers has been successful as no visitors have returned empty handed. We have received footfall of more than 30,000 till late Saturday afternoon and the response from the visitors is overwhelming,” said Suman Maharjan, event coordinator at Direction Nepal.



The fair is managed by Direction Nepal and supported by Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC), Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and National Micro Entrepreneurs Federation Nepal (NMEFN).
