A gang of three motorcycle-borne assailants had attacked Tamang and fled the scene, police said.
Tamang succumbed to his fatal injuries at Nuwakot District Hospital Trishuli. Police have detained two persons suspecting their involvement in the crime. Nepal Tamang, 18, of same place and Amar Tamang, 20, has been arrested in connection with the case.
The deceased had collected his pension amount from Kathmandu, few days back and returned to the village. Police suspect the former Bristish soldier was murdered for his money.
