Dispute over officials for Nat'l Games intensifies

DHANGADI, Nov 1: Dispute between cadres of UCPN (Maoist) and Tarai Madhes Demorcratic Party (TMDP) regarding the officials for the Sixth National Games to be held in Dhangadi has intensified after YCL cadres barred former chairman of Regional Sports Development Committee and the chairman of Kailali District Sports Development Committee Rajiv Gupta and TMDP district secretary Umesh Shrestha from attending the interaction attended by Minister for Youth and Sports Kamala Rokka and National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama.



Shrestha was the former president of Kailali District Sports Development Committee.



TMDP has issued a press statement condemning the act.



It is understood that TMDP representatives were barred from participating over the dispute regarding officials of the Regional Sports Development Committee.



YCL has claimed that TMDP activist were denied participation fearing that the latter may interrupt interaction.



Speaking during the interaction, NSC Member Secretary Lama said that some people were trying to stop the National Games from being held in Kailali.



"Despite protest we will successfully host the Sixth National Games," Lama said adding, "We are ready to include all sides and former officials of the Regional Sports Development Committee."



Dispute has erupted between the parties regarding regional and district sports officials following the Supreme Court verdict ordering reinstatement of Gupta and Sherstha in their respective posts.



Shrestha and Gupta claim to be legitimate presidents.
