BANEPA, Dec 10: Minister for Information and Communications Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta on Saturday said the failure to draft the new constitution within the extended term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) will invite fresh conflict in the country.

“The political parties have been indulging in the power sharing game and this has affected the twin task of concluding the peace process and constitution writing. The country will be thrown into conflict if the new constitution is not drafted on time.” said Gupta, who is also the Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum- Republican (MPRF-R).[break]

Addressing party cadres in Dhulikhel on Saturday morning, Gupta claimed that the major three political parties -- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML -- will not be affected by the conflict much as the Madhesi parties as the major parties still have an upper hand in state affairs.

“So, there will be no alternative for the Madhes-based parties other than launching a fresh movement,” added Gupta.

In a separate context, Gupta criticized the recent remarks by the coordinator of the State Restructuring Commission (SRC) Dr Madan Pariyar that the north south division of the states would be appropriate for the country. “I will raise this issue in the cabinet. Pariyar must clarify his remarks,” added Gupta.
