Civil servants to attempt Everest

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: A team of 15 civil servants is to scale the Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world, by mid May, 2011.



The team will be climbing the peak under the Civil Servants Mt. Everest Expedition Campaign- 2011.[break]



Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Leela Mani Poudel will lead the expedition team.



"The objective of the expedition is to attract civil employees and employees of the corporate house across the world for mountaineering in Nepal so as to make the Nepal Tourism Year-2011 successful", said section officer at the Tourism Ministry, Dorendra Niraula.



Among those included in the team are Santa Kumar Maharjan, Mukti Ram Rijal, Hari Dhakal, Kumar Giri, Hari Prasad Guragain, Tulsiram Bhandari, Laxman Bhattarai, Subir Shrestha, Durga Prasad Bhattarai, Surath Pokharel, Ananda Kumar Shrestha, Khim Lal Gautam, Padma Bahadur Bhandari and Rukmini Gurung.



According to Niraula, Rs 30 million has been allocated for the campaign.
