KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Chyasal Youth Club eased relegation fears with its first win in nine matches in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division League football tournament on Wednesday. Chyasal defeated Swayambhu Club 3-0 at the APF ground in Halchowk.

Chyasal scored all three goals after the interval. Chyasal made the breakthrough in the 64th minute when Shankar Byanjankar opened the scoring through penalty. The penalty was awarded after Dinesh Karki of Swayambhu handled the ball in the danger zone. [break]

Kamlesh Chaudhary doubled the tally in the 78th minute when he unleashed an unstoppable shot from 30 yard. Ajay Thapa sealed the victory six minutes from time.

The win did not have any impact on Chyasal´s position as it remained unchanged on the relegation border in the 12th position. However, Chyasal extended its gap with another relegation struggler Kathmandu Club, which lies in the 13th position, to four points. Chyasal will play against Kathmandu in its next match and a victory could strengthen its chances of remaining alive in the second division.

Swayambhu dropped one spot to seventh with 12 points following its third defeat in the league. Swayambhu has won three matches and lost three. The defeat also ended Swayambhu´s hopes of making it to top-tier football. Swayambhu was relegated to B division last season.

"The defeat cost us dearly as it has ended our hopes of moving into A division," said Swayambhu coach Bikram Lama, while attributing the defeat to absence of his two key forwards in the squad. Jitendra Karki and Anjan Lakhaju of Swayambhu had missed the match after being shown double yellow cards in the club´s last match against Samajik.

In the day´s earlier match, Brigade Boys Club edged past Shree Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club 1-0 to hand the latter its fifth defeat. Bishnu Gurung scored the all-important goal for Brigade Boys in the 13th minute.

After its fourth win, Brigade Boys moved three spots up to fifth with 13 points while Pulchowk remained unchanged in the 10th place. Pulchowk has nine points.

There will be three matches on Wednesday. Satdobato will play Shree Kumari Club, Birgunj Youth Academy will take on Samajik Youth Club and Mahabir will face league leader Tusal.
