Church Boys' win Surunga title

JHAPA, Nov 6: Kathmandu-based Church Boys' United claimed the title of the Surunga Gold Cup Tournament beating A Division tier Jhapa XI by 1-0 in the final played at Surunga, Jhapa on Friday.



Suman Lama's solo goal in the 27th minute helped Church Boys' defeat Jhapa that finished fourth in the recently concluded National League.

Champion Church Boys' bagged Rs 2,51,111 along with trophy, while runner-up Jhapa pocketed Rs 1,51,111.


Jhapa had control over the game and created numerous goal opportunities but failed to convert them into goal. Suman Lama of Church Boys' was adjudged player-of-the-series, while Bishal Rai of Jhapa got player-of-the-match award.


Altogether eight teams from Nepal, India and Bhutan took part in the tournament.
