DAILEKH, Oct 7: A child has been seriously injured in Dailekh when he happened to play with an improvised explosive device (IED) mistaking it for a toy.

The accident took place on October 5 when 11-year-old Til Bahadur Punmagar had gone to graze his cattle at a jungle around an hours’ walk from his home in Kagate village of Baluwatar VDC-8 of the district.[break]

The IED reportedly exploded in his hands dismembering three fingers of his left hand. He has also sustained injuries to his face and chest.

The sound of the explosion had been heard across the nearby village but the incident came to light only when Til Bahadur came crying home with his injuries, his father Nar Bahadur Punmagar said.

The injured was brought to the district headquarters on Friday, and is undergoing treatment at a private medical clinic.
