Chand sacked from NRSF

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: The intensifying power struggle between two factions of the ruling UCPN (Maoist) has hit its sports wing Nepal Republican Sports Federation (NRSF).



NRSF faction led by Rana Sangram Bista and Dhruba Bikram Malla sacked its President Jayandra Bahadur Chand on Friday.[break]



The Bista faction, close to party chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, at a press meet on Friday said that a majority of the NRSF central committee members has decided to appoint Chand as its advisor and Bista as its president. “Chand´s health condition and busy routine has hampered the NRSF activities," states the press release issued by Mahesh Newa, the general secretary.



Chand, brother of the Maoist leader Netra Bikram Chand, is close to the party faction led by Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya ´Kiran´.



Meanwhile, Bista faction claimed that a majority of NRSF central committee members decided to withdraw the action taken against former president Malla and appointed him as advisor. Meanwhile, the Bista faction announced that the NRSF has decided to expel Secretary Bimala Paudel, a supporter of Chand, from the federation.



“It is a conspiracy against me. They have violated the statute of the federation and I´m still the president of NRSF," Chand told Republica. "Their claim that the decision was taken through a majority of the central committee is false," he added.



Chand said that the establishment faction of the party and the current National Sports Council leadership could have plotted against him. "I heard the Bista faction has talked with party leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi before organizing the press meet," said Chand.
