CDO orders closure of crusher plant

LAHAN, Dec 3: Responding to a story published in Republica on Tuesday, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Udayapur Madhusudan Burlakoti has directed the District Forest Officer Shantamuni Burlakoti to shut down the illegal crusher plant operating in the middle of forest. The plant has been smuggling construction materials to India for the 1,650 km Delhi-Guwahati Highway, which is under construction.[break]

“I have asked the forest officer to remove the crusher plant installed in the forest. The plant will be removed in a few days,” CDO Burlakoti said.



Meanwhile, Minister of State for Tourism and Civil Aviation Shatrughan Prasad Singh Koiri, who is on a visit to his home district Siraha, expressed serious concern over the matter after reading the news. “I will immediately take steps to stop this devastating act after returning to Kathmandu,” Koiri assured.



Koiri said the destruction of Chure region will not only imperil the lives of the people living in the Tarai but the entire country. He also appreciated Republica´s effort to expose the illegal enterprise.



Indian crusher company BSC C&C JV Nepal Pvt Ltd at Kadmaha in Madhupatti VDC-9, and Gaiman India and Mahavir Crusher Industry operating at Fattepur in Saptari have been sending thousands of tons of construction materials daily from several districts of the Tarai to India.
