KATHMANDU, Jan 24: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) on Sunday handed over a memorandum to Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang as a part of its campaign to mount pressure on the stakeholders concerned to write the constitution on time.

The party has said that the two-year term of the CA can´t be extended. "If the term is extended, that will be an unconstitutional step and the Nepali people will never accept it," the memorandum read.

It has said there is no alternative to write the constitution within the given time. "Failing to do so is to invite political and constitutional vacuum and that situation will eventually push the country into a civil war and disintegration," party chairman Kamal Thapa said in the memorandum.

Thapa has accused the major political parties of being dishonest and not working sincerely toward taking the peace process to a logical end and expediting the constitution making process. "They are all the time engaged in power-centric politics," Thapa said.

A team of party leaders and CA members from the party led by Thapa handed over the memorandum to Nembang at the latter´s office.
