DANG, May 8: Nepali Congress President Shushil Koirala said his party was not for extending Constituent Assembly (CA) tenure unless the progress on peace process was felt.

Speaking at the program organized by Nepal Press Union on Sunday, he said Unified CPN (Maoist) had signed on different deals but they betrayed the democratic forces by not implementing the agreements that NC is not ready to extend CA tenure unless Maoist combatants were managed.[break]

He said the promulgation of constitution in May 28 is possible when consensus among the political parties could still be forged.

In a different note, NC President Koirala said, "We do not give priority to join the government in the present context”. He added that congress is always for taking peace process to the logical conclusion.

On the occasion, NC Parlimentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel claimed the seven-point agreement signed by UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal and UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal created misunderstanding among the political parties.

He said it is not possible to go together with Maoist until the arms and combatants with the ex-rebel were managed.
