BUSINESS BRIEFS: Revenue collection exceeds target

PARSA, Jan 17: Birgunj Customs Office, the main entry point in the country, succeeded in collecting revenue by 52 percent more than the target in the last six months of the current fiscal year.



The office collected the revenue mainly through the evaluation of vehicles and seizure of smuggled goods, said office chief Kewal Prasad Bhandari. [break]



The office raised Rs 20 billion in revenue during the last six months of the current year, he informed.



Similarly, the Kailali Customs Office collected Rs 228.91 against the target of Rs 193.15 million.





Shrestha elected vice-chair of SAARC chamber



KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Former president of FNCCI Pradip Kumar Shrestha has been elected vice-chairman of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industries from Nepal for the 2010-11 term.



He was elected to the post following his nomination from FNCCI, as per the provision of nominating one vice chairman each from the seven member countries to the SAARC body.



Meanwhile, the executive committee meeting of the SAARC body is scheduled to begin in Dhaka on Sunday. The meeting will elect chairman and other office-bearers of the body. Bangladesh is chairing the body for the coming two years.



Shrestha left for Dhaka on Saturday to assume the office and take part in the executive committee meeting.
