BUSINESS BRIEFS: Irrigation system needs reforms, say experts

KATHMANDU, April 25: In an interaction program organized by Nepal Intellectual Council, experts stressed on the need to reform traditional irrigation system in Nepal.



Unveiling major highlights of the report entitled “Transaction cost in Farmers Managed Irrigation System in Nepal”, noted economist Dr Ram Chandra Bhattarai said farmers should be encouraged to engage in commercial farming. [break]



The report was prepared with the support of South Asian Network for Development of Environment and Economic (SANDEE) on the basis of the study of 60 irrigation system in the Kathmandu Valley.





´Artha ko Artha´ into 17th year

International Dev Bank in Biratnagar



KATHMANDU, April 25: International Development Bank Ltd has opened its 9th branch in Biratnagar.



The bank will provide all facilities including ABBS and ATM, the bank said in a statement, received on Sunday. Morang CDO Shashi Shekhar Shrestha inaugurated the new branch.



The bank has so far collected Rs 1.90 billion as deposit and lent Rs 1.87 billion. The bank plans to open 10 branches in this fiscal and year and aims to add 10 branches every year for the next five years.



Rajaram Khadka, CEO of the bank, said, the bank provides 12 percent interest on Special Fixed Deposit Account and 10 percent interest on International Best Services Account.
