The cabinet also decided to form a taskforce headed by the prime minister to take measures to resume vehicular movement in the mid and far-west regions where highways have been disrupted due to landslides a few weeks ago.
The meeting decided to ensure representation of the newly formed Madhesi People´s Right Forum (Democratic) at the local bodies. The cabinet also formed a committee under the Finance Ministry to oversee all political appointments in various state-run financial institutions.
Also, the cabinet agreed to take forward the proposal forwarded by Beijing GTZ for the development of Lumbini as a Buddhist center.
Meanwhile, Pokharel informed that the cabinet appointed Govinda Prasad Guragai as the executive director of the Local Development Training Academy, Tapanath Shukla as the executive director of Radio Nepal and Santosh Kumar Pandey as the member-secretary of the Social Welfare Council.
Singh acting army chief
The cabinet approved CoAS Chattra Mansingh Gurung´s visit to Hawaii (US) to attend the 12th conference of Defense Chiefs and designated Major General Toran Jung Bahadur Singh as the acting chief of Nepal Army. The cabinet, however, did not endorse Singh´s promotion to the post of Lieutenant General as proposed by the Defense Minister.
The CoAS will be in Honolulu from October 26-29 for the conference to be attended by chiefs of armies of the Asia-Pacific nations. Gurung will participate in three plenary discussions on perspectives on Asia-Pacific security trends, crisis avoidance and mitigation, civil and military disaster coordination and implication of climate and energy, according to Nepal Army´s Directorate of Public Relations.
