BANEPA, Feb 8: UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Tuesday said his party could not lead the government despite being the largest one due to the hand of regressive forces.

“We should have led the government in our capacity as the largest party. However, such a force stopped us from forming a government,” Bhattarai said speaking at a function organized by Progressive Technical Students´ Organization of Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel.[break]

Stating that the party had supported CPN-UML to form government as the party was a close ally of the UCPN (Maoist), he expressed hope that a full-fledged cabinet would be formed soon.

“Political deadlock might result if this government fails to get moving,” he warned.

Bhattarai also urged people not to panic from his dissenting views inside the party and said he has been raising such views for the betterment of the party. He also said although the country has been witnessing changes with the dethroning of the monarchy, a people´s federal constitution must be written.
