KATHMANDU, April 13: Minister for Defense Bidya Bhandari on Tuesday pledged that the government will sincerely implement the recommendations of the panel formed to probe the killing of three women, including a minor, at Bardiya National Park on March 10.

“The panel formed to probe the incident is in the final stage of submitting its report to the government. The government is committed to implement its recommendations. The report will make it easier for the government to do something about it,” said Bhandari responding to lawmakers´ queries at the legislature-parliament on Tuesday. [break]

The government has formed a three-member panel led by Joint Attorney General Saroj Prasad Gautam to probe into the cold-blooded murder of three tree-bark collectors by Nepal Army (NA) personnel. Those killed in the incident include Devisara BK, Amrita BK and minor Chandra Kala BK.

While the army has claimed the women were shot dead in retaliation, the reports prepared by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and parliamentary committee on women, children and social welfare state that they were only tree-bark collectors and were killed in cold blood.

Locals have also claimed that the women, including the minor, had been raped before being shot. However, the rape charge is yet to be established as the laboratory test reports of vaginal swab are yet to come out.

The House on Tuesday could not begin its business at 1 p.m. as scheduled after women and Dalit lawmakers threatened to disrupt the proceedings as Minister Bhandari failed to appear at the House to answer lawmakers´ queries over Bardiya killing. The House meeting began after Bhandari arrived at 3 p.m.

Lawmakers, including Janak Kumari Chalise, Tilak Pariyar, Vishwendra Paswan and Sarita Giri, lambasted the government for delaying legal actions against the guilty.
