Bankers brief PM on Bhandari attack

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Members of Nepal Bankers´ Association (NBA) on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and briefed him about the recent attack on their president, Rajan Singh Bhandari, by an unidentified group.



During the meeting, Bhandari, CEO of Citizens Bank International, said the attack has terrorized everyone in the banking sector, though he informed he did not sustain major injuries, says an NBA statement. He also urged the PM to bring the culprits to justice. [break]



In response, PM Bhattarai said he would immediately instruct security agencies to round up the attackers.



NBA officials also met with Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Dr Yuva Raj Khatiwada on Wednesday and briefed him about the incident involving Bhandari.



Meanwhile, the Federation of Contractors´ Association of Nepal has condemned the attack and urged the government to take stern action against attackers.



"Such attacks are creating terror. The government should maintain law and order so that people of different sectors and professions can work freely," the statement says.
