Balen’s election expenses total Rs 1.417 million

The expenditure includes costs for public transportation, air travel, voter training programs, ward-level campaign activities, operation of temporary election offices, production of promotional materials, and the nomination registration fee.

KATHMANDU, March 9: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, who contested in the House of Representatives election, has submitted his election expenditure report to the Election Commission. According to the submitted report, Balen spent a total of Rs 1,417,289 on various campaign and election-related activities.



The expenditure includes costs for public transportation, air travel, voter training programs, ward-level campaign activities, operation of temporary election offices, production of promotional materials, and the nomination registration fee. For example, two vehicles used over a 15-day period accounted for Rs 293,000, while airfare for five trips totaled Rs 35,000. The voter training program, which included 58 participants, cost Rs 28,970.

Ward-level campaign activities, including door-to-door outreach across 29 wards, incurred a cost of Rs 580,000. Operating temporary campaign offices for two months, including water and other arrangements, cost Rs 120,000, and stationery and other administrative materials amounted to Rs 22,820. Production of promotional materials such as flex boards, pamphlets, and banners cost Rs 157,000, while stickers and other campaign materials accounted for approximately Rs 119,000. The nomination registration fee was Rs 10,000.


Adding all these expenses together, Balen’s total reported election expenditure came to Rs 1,417,289. The Election Commission requires all candidates to submit a detailed report of their income and expenditure within a specified timeframe after the election.
