DHANKUTA, Jan 23: Five visibly impaired students at Gokundeshwar Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Dhankuta have scored good marks in tests after having audio books.

"Audio books have enhanced students´ learning capacity which is reflected in their improved test results," says principal Maha Nanda Pokharel. [break]

Sundar Limbu, one of the beneficiaries of audio books, said the new facility has been very useful. "Earlier we had no choice but to totally depend on the teachers. Now we can clearly understand all subjects through audio books," he said confidently.

Audio books were handed over to visibly-impaired students by the Youth Participation (YP), an NGO initiated by local youths, a few months ago. YP has provided them with MP3 players, chargers and batteries.

"We are proud that our effort has paid off," says YP coordinator Bijaya Dewan, adding, "Our next plan is to produce audio books for visibly impaired students studying at Diploma level."
