Assam marks Bhanu Jayanti

UDALGURI, July 14: Bhanu Jayanti, the 197th birth anniversary of Nepali poet, was celebrated in about 50 Nepali speaking majority places in Indian state of Assam.



The reports of celebration of the birth anniversary of the Adikavi received from Tinsukia, Dibruagarh, Margherita, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, and Sonitpur districts in upper Assam. [break]



The Adaikavi was remembered in Kokrajhar, Baksa,Chirang, Gauhati, Goalpara too, by a good number of Nepali social organizations like Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Assam, Assam Gorkha Sammelan and All Assam Gorkha Students´ Union (AAGSU).



In Udalguri district, the Harisinga Anchalik Samiti of All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) under the aegis of Udalguri district committee of the students´ organization marked the 197th birth anniversary of Nepali Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya at Lising Gaon in Harisinga on July 13 with a daylong program.



The program to this effect was chaired by Manoj Rai, president of Harisinga Anchalik Committee of AAGSU while Tarapati Upadhyaya, the Sahitya Akademy award winner in translation works in Nepali language, highlighted the contribution of Nepali Adikavi Bhanubhakta to Nepali literature.



Earlier, Lila Mishra Sundar, a social activist inaugurated the open session which was also addressed by Dipak Dahal, president of Udalguri district committee of the students´ organization. Narayan Fuenl, publicity secretary of the AAGSU, presented a keynote address on the poet.



Likewise, the villagers of Jangalborigaon near Udalguri town also observed the 197th Bhanu Jayanti at the premises of Jangalborigaon LP school with a daylong agenda which included floral tribute to the poet, welcome song, poem recitation and speech on life and contribution of Nepali Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya.



The open literary discourse was chaired by Prem Limbu, headmaster of Jangalborigaon School and Sashi Kumar Sarmah, headmaster of Khourang LP School, conducted the program.



Dhanjit Rai, Somnath Gautam, Rajeev Sarmah, Krishna Sarmah, Ekdev Bhattarai and school children of the locality recited poems while RR Sapkota, teacher of Udalguri Girls´ Higher Secondary School and Rashmi Rekha Devi, excise inspector of Udalguri district highlighted, on the life and literary activities of the great Nepali poet.
