KATHMANDU,March 27: Elapse, an interactive art installation exhibition is underway at the Nepal Art Council, Babermahal from March 23.

As part of the “Artists in the city: Urbanization and urban culture” project by the Interactive Mapping and Archiving Project (IMAP), the artists have expressed their relationship with Kathmandu through the installations.

The exhibition has been built as a tunnel where the audience is given the feel of a suffocating Kathmandu.

The first tunnel takes you through a replica of cobbled streets in the Kathmandu Valley.

Then a video about urbanization comes along.

Next is an interactive installation, titled “Paranoid Identity”, where the audience needs to interact individually with each section of a closed room. A restroom and a modern man envisioned by six different artists express their take on urbanization.

“Our aim is to show the way our lives have changed through the years. How our artistic houses have been turned into blocks of bricks and cements,” says artist Bidhata KC.

She explains that the project is an outcome of the realization and experience of each of the artists. “We have symbolically presented our centralized city, our alienation from the society and growing dependence on the social media. We all want to escape the city for a breath of fresh air and you will feel this once you visit the exhibition,” she expresses.

The exhibition will be held until March 31. It is open from 10 am to 5 pm.
