The Award was instituted nine years back by the National Youth Service Fund with the objective of honouring national hero Araniko and contributing to the promotion and conservation of art and culture.
Artists Bhandari and K.C. have made notable contribution to sculpture and art sectors respectively. The award jointly carries a purse of Rs. 40,000, gold medals and letter of merit.
Meanwhile, The National People´s Cultural Federation Nepal has decided to present the Jana Sanskriti Award – 2009 posthumously to historian Kedarnath Pradhan and the Jana Sanskriti Youth Talent Aawrd-2009 to writer Jhamak Ghimire.
Both the awards are instituted by the Federation and they will be presented on the occasion of the Federation´s 23rd anniversary.
The Jana Sanskritik Award is being presented posthumously to historian Pradhan in recognition of his contribution to new perspective on history writing in Nepal while the Youth Talent Award is being conferred on Ghimire for her relentless work in the field of Nepali literature.
