KATHMANDU, Jan 3: Families of two Nepali nationals -- Sajan Gurung, 30, of Kimtang VDC-9, Nuwakot and Hari Bahadur Ghale, 29, of Barsunchet VDC-1 -- who have been sentenced to death in Malaysia have appealed to human rights activists and civil society organizations to intervene on their behalf.

The Malaysian police had initiated legal action for their alleged involvement in drug smuggling. The Malaysian court had awarded them death penalty on November 26, 2009.

Family members of the accused have claimed that both are innocent.
