SIRAHA, Dec 6: Three days have passed since the Chief District Officer (CDO) Madhusudan Burlakoti directed District Forest Officer (DFO) Shantamuni Tamrakar to shut down an illegally operated crusher plant, there is no progress in implementing the CDO´s instruction. Worse still, another crusher plant has been illegally set up on the bank of the Kamala River. [break]

An Indian crusher company, BSC C&C JV Nepal Pvt Ltd, which has been extracting stones out of Belsot River to supply to India for construction of the Delhi-Guwahati Highway, has brought another crusher plant into operation at Tribeni village. The company has constructed two gravel roads that link the river with the Mirchaiya-Katari road.

The company, however, is yet to start with quarrying. “We will start quarrying once our local contractor finishes demarcating the area for quarrying,” the company´s representative Sukhdev Singh told myrepublica.com. Singh says Hari Khadka, a local resident, has got the contract to extract stones and pebbles. However, locals say Khadka is just a puppet used by the company.

Meanwhile, DFO Tamrakar has dismissed the report of the crusher plant being operated illegally in the middle of forest in Udayapur, rather than shutting it down. “There is no crusher plant as such,” Tamrakar told myrepublica.com.
