DADELDHURA, May 15: An ambulance belonging to a primary health center in Deulek was caught smuggling a large amount of liquor in Dadeldhura on Monday. The ambulance was caught by locals protesting for an undivided far-western region while on its way to Bajhang from Kailali.

According to DSP Binod Ghimire, 15 bottles of Virgin, 98 bottles of gin and 45 bottles of unicorner were recovered from the ambulance. [brak]“The ambulance makes rounds of the health center and the district headquarters on a regular basis. The protestors handed it over to us after seeing liquor inside,” he said.

Coordinator of Undivided Far-western Region Struggle Committee Laxman Budiyar said the protesters checked the ambulance on Monday morning as they sensed something wrong with it. “Or else, we have not obstructed ambulances, press vehicles and wedding processions,” he said.

Ten people were traveling in the ambulance. Apart from liquor, there were also vegetables and other daily essentials inside the vehicle.

Police have detained the ambulance driver Jagdish Bohara, 25, and will take action against him under public offense act, DSP Ghimire said.

The agitators had recently caught another ambulance with liquor in Attariya. “Ambulances and government-owned vehicles are taking advantage of banda and being used in smuggling,” Budiyar said.
