ITAHARI, Jan 1: Altogether 42 prisoners, who were shifted to the eastern regional jail in Jhumka of Sunsari district from Khotang district jail after a Maoist attack seven years ago during the insurgency are likely to be transferred to the same place.

Ganesh Adhikari, jailer of Jhumka jail said the 42 inmates will be shifted to Khotang jail within a week.[break]

Although the Department of Prison Management had instructed the Jhumka jail administration to shift the 42 inmates to Khotang jail two months ago, the transfer plan was postponed following a jailbreak in which as many as 12 inmates fled the regional jail by digging an 80-feet tunnel.

"The jailbreak forced us to put our plan on hold," said Adhikari. "Now, we have decided to transfer the prisoners."

In June 2005 during the insurgency, the Maoists had attacked Diktel, the district headquarters of Khotang destroying the district prison among other government infrastructure. The jail has been reconstructed.
