Three passengers have been critically injured after the IED went off inside the bus (Lu 1 Kha 3665) at Milan Chowk, Butwal at 6:20 in the evening. One of the critically injured has been identified as Mina Kunwar of Tamghas, Gulmi while the identities of two other unconscious patients are yet to be revealed.[break]
While eight of the injured have been referred to Kathmandu for further treatment, others, who have sustained injuries to hands, feet and chest, are receiving treatment at the Lumbini Zonal Hospital.
“Most of the passengers on the rear have been injured,” said Dal Bahadur Thapa, a passenger. The bus caught fire after the explosion and a fire engine of Butwal Municipality doused the fire. Nobody has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sher Bahadur Basnet said police have been kept on high alert following the incident. “Nobody has claimed responsibility for the act so far but we suspect the Bhagat Singh-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha that has previously been involved in such acts has done this,” he said. SP Basnet said a bomb kept in Bethari, Bhairahawa purportedly by the same group was defused by the police in the morning.
This is the third such incident of explosion in a passenger bus in the past three days. Six persons, were injured when another IED exploded in a moving passenger bus in Ganapur of Surkhet Road around eight kilometers north of Nepalgunj Saturday afternoon. The Janatantrik Tarai Madhes Mukti Party had taken responsibility for the explosion.
Twelve people were injured after a socket bomb went off inside a passenger bus in Rautahat Friday afternoon. The Abhay Singh-led Tarai-Madhesh Mukti Morcha had claimed responsibility of the Rautahat blast.
