DHANUSHA, Feb 21: With the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 drawing near, authorities have removed around 20,000 campaign materials put up in violation of the election code of conduct.
The District Administration Office (DAO), Dhanusha, said it cleared pamphlets, leaflets, banners, and posters that candidates had indiscriminately pasted across Janakpurdham.
According to the DAO, the materials were removed from public places, electricity poles, government buildings, and roadside areas where they had been displayed in breach of election rules. On Thursday, the administration had given candidates and political parties one day to voluntarily remove materials that violated the code of conduct.

After they failed to comply within the stipulated timeframe, the administration itself removed nearly 20,000 such materials on Friday, said Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luitel.
Luitel said the haphazardly placed campaign materials had affected the city’s aesthetics and breached election regulations, prompting action. He warned that legal measures would be taken if similar violations are repeated.
The unauthorized materials were mostly found in main market areas, public squares, walls, and government structures. Luintel urged political parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct while carrying out campaign activities.
“Materials put up in violation of the rules will be removed immediately. If there is non-compliance, necessary action will be taken against the concerned candidates and parties,” he said. “We are committed to strictly enforcing the code of conduct to ensure a clean, dignified, and orderly election environment.”
