Police estimate that property worth Rs 2 million was damaged in the fire. Four livestock were charred to death. A fire engine that reached the site from Rajbiraj, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force teams from Hanumannagar, and locals doused the fire at 8:30 pm.
Saptari district police chief Sharad Oli said additional damage was prevented by timely mobilization of the fire engine and security forces. Early mobilization became possible because the incident site is located just 15 kilometers from Rajbiraj and is accessible by road.
Among those whose houses were consumed by the fire are Laxman Khanga, Sitaram Khanga, and Bhola Khanga.
Meanwhile, the fire engine in Lahan has broken down a week ago in an accident. Since then, it has been kept in the garage for repairs. Lahan Municipality has issued a public notice warning residents to be careful with fire as the fire engine is under repair.
The municipality´s Chief Executive Officer Murari Nepal said the engine will come back into operation by this weekend. The fire engine was providing services in Saptari, Udayapur, and Siraha districts regularly.
