CHITWAN, Ratnanagar, July 28: Bird experts have drawn the conclusion that some 149 species of birds among birds found in Nepal are in crisis.

This was concluded in the discussion of more than 50 bird experts of Nepal in Sauraha of Chitwan district. [break]

Nepal has some 871 species of birds. The crisis came as no studies and conservation were effective, said an expert Basu Bidari.

Chitwan alone has 565 species, and of them, 56 are near extinct.

Decision was taken to run awareness programmes for conservation, publication of a journal, and making record keeping effective and scientific, said Bidari.

A 11-member Nepal Bird Experts Association has also been reconstituted under Hem Sagar Baral by the General Assembly.
