GOLBAZAR, June 16: Police have impounded 10 tippers and an excavator involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of sand and aggregates from different parts of Siraha district.
A joint team from the Area Police Office, Golbazaar, and the Armed Police Force seized the excavator from the Kamala River in Gamhariya of Siraha Municipality-13 and eight tippers from the Gagan River in Golbazaar Municipality-3.
Think beyond roads
According to Acting Information Officer at the District Police Office, Naresh Limbu, police reached the sites after receiving a tip-off that illegal extraction activities were being carried out unchecked. Some of the vehicles were already loaded with sand and aggregates.
Upon the arrival of the police team, all tipper drivers and the excavator operators fled the scene. The police, however, took the vehicles under control, Limbu said.
