KATHMANDU, Oct 5: Kanjirowa National Higher Secondary School conducted their Model United Nations (MUN) on October 4 at their school premises in Koteshwor. This academic simulation of the United Nations saw the participation of students from Grades 8-10, where students played the roles of delegates from various UN member states and discussed various pressing international issues such as the Syria Crisis and the problem of starvation in developing countries.

The participants were divided into six different committees namely, Administrative and Budgetary Committee, World Health Organization (WHO) Governing Body, Disarmament and International Security Committee, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Action Committee, United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Governing Body and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Governing Body. Each committee had one of the members present their proposals as ‘Draft Resolution’ which was debated by the nations, all of whom either took a ‘for’ or ‘against’ stand regarding the resolutions presented.

According to the school management, hosting the mock UN sessions was a way of helping the students to conceptualize the procedures and provision that the General Assembly of the United Nations takes into action. It is one of the ‘Learning by Doing’ activities
