Writ filed against Jha's appointment as new NTA chief

KATHMANDU, Dec 12: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC), seeking an interim order against the government decision to appoint Digambar Jha as the new chairman of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), on Wednesday.



Advocates Jagannath Misrha, Sushil Kaji Baniya and Hari Chandra Timalsena filed the writ, citing Jha’s professional ‘incompetency’ on his previous job, and failure to meet criteria, including prior working experience in the field, for the post. [break]



Formerly , Jha was managing director of Nepal Oil Coroporation (NOC), The cabinet on December 4 had decided to appoint Jha as head of the NTA. In the petition, along with Jha the prime minister and his office and the office of council of ministers, information and communications ministry and the minister, and the NTA selection committee have been made opponents.
