Advocates Jagannath Mishra, Sushil Kaji Baniya and Harichandra Timalsena moved the apex court urging the latter to issue an interim order against the government´s decision. [break]
The petitioners claimed that Jha does not meet the criteria, including prior work experience in the relevent field. They also claimed that Jha was incompetent in his previous job at NOC.
The petitioners have stated that the government´s decision to appoint Jha as NTA chief would affect the entire telecommunications sector and illegal decisions could result.
The cabinet meeting on December 4 had decided to appoint Jha as chief of NTA, a body responsible for regulating telecommunications.
The prime minister and his office, the information and communications minister and his office, the NTA selection committee and Jha himself have been named defendants in the writ petition.
